Woobie Day

I just wanted my woobie. I wanted my woobie before the clouds came, the rain fell, and the thunder rolled which only increased the need for a woobie. I wanted to watch the Bugs Bunny & Road Runner Show, have my mom bring me something comforting to drink, (or chocolate), and to crawl into my woobie for the rest of the day.

I looked up the meaning of “woobie” online. The word has morphed into something other than a security blanket, but what I had in mind was the woobie from Mr. Mom as Michael Keaton warns his son of the danger of woobies:

“I understand that you little guys start out with your woobies and you think they're great... and they are, they are terrific. But pretty soon, a woobie isn't enough. You're out on the street trying to score an electric blanket, or maybe a quilt. And the next thing you know, you're strung out on bedspreads Ken. That's serious."

Sometimes the woobie just isn’t enough, and I’d have been on the street trying to score something bigger if I’d had the motivation to do so. I just stared out the windows, thinking, thinking, thinking. When I was done thinking so hard about so many things, I started thinking about going to bed. It was noon. Only noon? Will this day never end?

I read Scripture, typically an encouraging read, but because I’ve been studying the minor prophets recently, I found myself buried in sin and judgment, man’s rebellion and God’s wrath, but even in judgment I find encouragement from Micah 7:18 …

“Who is a god like You, PARDONING iniquity and PASSING OVER transgression for the remnant of His inheritance?

He does not retain His anger forever BECAUSE HE DELIGHTS IN STEADFAST LOVE.

He will again have COMPASSION on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot.

You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” (Sound Egyptianly familiar?)

You will show FAITHFULNESS to Jacob and STEADFAST LOVE to Abraham, as You have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.”

I also got off my … couch and finished this project:

(I couldn’t take the picture from any other angle, so I was kind of stuck with the shadow. It’s not a two-tone wall.)

I’m thinking on this verse and all the treasures in it, hoping to walk through this time of doubt and anxiety with faithfulness and courage. No woobies allowed.
